Crystal — Privacy Policy

The short version

Crystal doesn't collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data, ever. Everything the extension does happens locally, inside your own browser, on your own device. There is no server for Crystal to send anything to, because Crystal doesn't run one.

What Crystal can see, and why

To do its job — saving groups of open tabs as named "bubbles," showing how tabs branched from one another, and reopening them later — Crystal needs to read:

• The title, URL, and favicon of tabs you save into a bubble, or that are currently open as part of an open bubble
• When tabs are created, activated, or closed, so it can track how one tab led to another and keep a bubble's map in sync

This information is used only to build and display your own bubbles and their tab map, inside your own browser.

Where your data lives

Everything Crystal creates — your bubbles, their notes, and their tab history — is stored using Chrome's built-in local storage, on your device only. It is never uploaded, synced to a server, or made available to the developer or anyone else, because no such server exists.

If you use the "Export backup" feature, Crystal creates a file on your own computer, entirely under your control. Crystal never uploads that file anywhere; it's yours to keep, move, or delete as you like. The "Import backup" feature only ever reads a file you explicitly choose.

What Crystal does not do

• No analytics or usage tracking
• No advertising, and no data shared with advertisers
• No account, sign-up, or login required
• No data ever leaves your browser

Permissions

Crystal requests three browser permissions:

• tabs — to read tab titles, URLs, and favicons, and to detect when tabs open, activate, or close. This is the core mechanism behind bubbles and the tab map.
• storage and unlimitedStorage — to save your bubbles locally on your device. Tab hoarders can accumulate a lot of data, so the storage cap is lifted rather than risk silently losing your bubbles.

None of these permissions are used to transmit data anywhere.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the update will be posted here with a new effective date.
